Easy Halloween Costume Idea

how to make your own clothes work for a halloween costume

I have loved Halloween since I was a little girl. My mom always did it big. Decorations, costumes, candy for months (seriously), everything. As I got older, I still enjoyed the holiday, but I just found it to become more complicated. Finding a costume and spending money on a costume just weren’t as fun as when I was little.

Over the past couple of years I haven’t dressed up, simply out of not really needing to and not wanting to spend the money on something that I am only going to wear once. Well, this year I have a Halloween party to go to on the day of Halloween. Not dressing up was not an option, but not spending money on something for a one time wear is an option.

David and I started brainstorming different ideas of what we could dress up as together and be thrifty while doing it. Then it hit me! We could be a couple from the 1950’s! Dressing up as a non specific historic time is an easy way to save. Pick an era you are a fan of, and that way you will most likely own something resembling the time.

I am and have always loved the clothing of the 1950’s. I made this dress several years back just for my enjoyment, but I decided it would be a perfect thing to wear to this party. I get to wear something I actually love AND it didn’t cost me a dime 🙂 David owned everything he is wearing as well. They are staples that are just styled to play up the time period. His glasses didn’t hurt the look either 🙂 How cute is he?! And what a trooper for agreeing to do this!

And a twirly dress would not be complete without spinning!
